Career day
Describe what you think a typical work day is like at this site.
I am doing my career day at Discovery Elementary in San Marcos. I have done this career day in the past two years in high school so I understand and could imagine how a typical day is at this site. Usually you pick up the kids from their pod where they are usually waiting for the teacher. In the class you start with greeting and talking to them doing some exercises to get the kids up and ready to start the day. Then I could only imagine there will be small easy lectures for the students and plenty of work time such as rotations.
What do you think the business's general work policies are?
Usually there’s dress code for teachers at schools where they teach. So a dress code, as well as certain amounts of sick days you can take and being on time is important because parents and kids will be waiting on you. Not being too absent and I could imagine work they are assigned of what they have to teach and fallow, to schedules.
Describe the dress code. What does that mean to you?
In my opinion I believe in a working space remaining professional looking and sticking to dresscode is a good thing. Maintaining a good image especially a teacher when meeting with parents and other important people perhaps. I think dresscode is a valuable policy that should be followed unless you have a different job that doesn't matter really what you wear, for example working from home.
Please write a reflection about your Career Day experience. What do you expect the professional world there to be like?
My experience in this career day is something I am personally not looking forward to experiencing again. I have realized that teaching is not something I am interested in and see myself doing. Reasons being that I can’t see myself being happy doing this for the rest of my life if so. I don’t really like the repetition of similar thing you do in in class with students, in my opinion that’s how it feels to me. Being taught is great, but teaching is not something I am looking forward to in the future as if now. I feel like it would get stressful especially because it’s one of you and many students. I'd rather work with adults and not hear complaining most days of my life. There was kids crying over small things like “somebody took my green marker” and i would have to calm them down and let them know to take turns. And many times they would not listen. I just feel that I would get stressed being a elementary teacher or a teacher in general.
In what ways do you expect your high school classes and the skills you have learned to apply to this profession?
Knowing the school materials like math, humanities, science, English are skills you apply to this profession. Being organized mostly each and everyday is something valuable to this profession as well. Being good at communicating with students and adults will help in being a teacher, also being positive and role model to these kids.
